Verify Cleanliness in Seconds with ATP Testing

ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) monitoring is a rapid bioluminescence test that quickly assesses the cleanliness of surfaces or water samples, which benefits food & beverage and pharmaceutical companies

Benefits of ATP Cleaning Verification

  • Rapid results: Receive measurable hygiene readings in seconds.
  • Objective verification: Detect organic residues that visual checks may miss.
  • Versatile testing: Monitor surfaces, equipment and rinse water.
  • Early warning: Identify cleaning failures and act immediately.
  • Smarter reporting: Track trends, compare results, and simplify audits.

We can provide product guidance, demonstrations, training, technical support, servicing and calibration to help customers use their ATP monitoring systems effectively.

FAQ's

What is ATP testing?
ATP testing is a rapid method used to check the cleanliness of surfaces and water. It measures adenosine triphosphate (ATP), an energy molecule found in living cells and organic material. High ATP readings may indicate that cleaning was not effective.
The EnSURE® Touch or SystemSURE™ Plus luminometer provides an ATP result in approximately 10 seconds, allowing cleaning teams to take immediate action when required.
An ATP hygiene monitoring system consists of three key components: A test device: Use UltraSnap® or SuperSnap® for surfaces, or AquaSnap® for water samples. A luminometer: Use the EnSURE® Touch or SystemSURE™ Plus to measure the sample and provide rapid results. Data-management software: Use SureTrend® to store results, monitor trends, and manage your hygiene programme.
Collect the sample Swab the surface with UltraSnap or SuperSnap, or collect a water sample with AquaSnap. Measure the sample Activate the test device and insert it into the EnSURE Touch or SystemSURE Plus luminometer. Review the result The luminometer provides a rapid ATP reading, helping you assess whether cleaning has been effective. Monitor performance Use SureTrend software to store results, identify trends and manage hygiene data over time.
ATP testing checks for biological residue and helps verify cleaning effectiveness. It does not identify specific microorganisms. MicroSnap tests can be used with the EnSURE Touch to detect and measure specific indicator organisms, including total viable count, coliforms, and E. coli.

A surface may look clean while still containing invisible organic residues. Visual inspection alone cannot confirm whether cleaning has been effective.

ATP testing provides a rapid, measurable indication of cleanliness. This helps quality and sanitation teams to:

  • Verify cleaning effectiveness: Check surfaces, equipment and CIP rinse water before production begins.
  • Take immediate corrective action: Identify failed cleaning points and reclean the affected area without waiting for laboratory results.
  • Reduce contamination risks: Detect conditions where biological contamination could remain or develop.
  • Improve cleaning procedures: Compare results across equipment, production areas, teams and shifts.
  • Support audit readiness and HACCP programmes: Maintain measurable records that demonstrate routine cleaning verification.
  • Protect product quality: Reduce the risk of residues affecting product safety, quality or shelf life.
